Atlanta is one of the biggest winners of the 2026 World Cup: Mercedes-Benz Stadium hosts eight matches, including a semi-final, in the heart of downtown, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and the city's best attractions. For visiting fans, Atlanta is also one of the easiest host cities to navigate, because the stadium sits on the MARTA rail network and downtown is compact and walkable. Combine that with the city's famous hospitality and food scene, and Atlanta becomes one of the smartest choices for a multi-match World Cup trip.

The stadium is served by the Vine City and Dome/GWCC stations on the MARTA Blue and Green lines, which connect directly to downtown hotels, the airport line and the wider city. On matchdays, trains are frequent but crowded, so allow extra time and travel outside the peak crush if you can. Driving downtown on matchdays is possible but slow, with event parking expensive and traffic heavy around the stadium, so public transport is the better choice for most fans. If you are staying downtown, many hotels are within walking distance of the stadium, which is a genuine advantage on hot summer days.

Arrive at least two hours before kickoff, and check the stadium bag policy in advance, because only small clear bags are permitted and security screening is thorough. The stadium has a retractable roof, so rain is rarely a problem, but the walk from the station can be hot and humid in June and July, so carry water, sunscreen and a hat. Inside, concourses are wide and food options are excellent, with local Atlanta favourites alongside standard stadium fare, though prices are at major-event levels.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is known for its striking architecture, its huge circular video screen, and its steep, close stands, which create an intense atmosphere even in a large building. Lower-bowl seats near the halfway line offer the best view, while upper-tier seats still give a clear sightline thanks to the steep rake. Behind-goal sections are the loudest and most colourful, which suits fans who want to be in the middle of the support. Whatever your seat, check your gate in advance, because the stadium is large and the walk between gates can be long.

Atlanta's stadium is also famous for its fan-friendly food pricing policies at regular events, though World Cup pricing follows tournament rules, so do not expect the same deals. Eat a proper meal before the match, and treat stadium food as a snack. The pre-match atmosphere around the stadium, with fan zones, music and supporters' gatherings, is part of the experience, so arrive early and enjoy it rather than rushing straight to your seat.

Downtown Atlanta is the most convenient base, with hotels near Centennial Olympic Park and the stadium, while Midtown offers a livelier restaurant and nightlife scene with easy MARTA access. Buckhead, further north, offers more upscale hotels and shopping, but adds travel time to the stadium. For budget travellers, hotels near MARTA stations outside downtown can offer good value without much extra journey time. Book early, because Atlanta's huge convention infrastructure means rooms exist, but World Cup demand still pushes prices up sharply on match weeks.

With a free day, visit the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, and the BeltLine, a popular walking and cycling trail lined with restaurants and street art. Atlanta's food scene is outstanding, from barbecue and soul food to international restaurants reflecting the city's diversity. The official FIFA Fan Festival and city fan zones will run throughout the tournament, offering free big-screen viewing for matches you do not attend.

Pack for heat and sudden summer storms: light clothing, sunscreen, a hat and a compact rain jacket cover most conditions. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, because downtown Atlanta is best explored on foot, and the walk from MARTA to the stadium can be longer than it looks on a map. Keep your phone charged, download offline maps, and agree a meeting point with your group, because mobile networks can struggle with a full stadium crowd. With those basics covered, Atlanta offers one of the most enjoyable and hassle-free World Cup experiences in the tournament.
